Microbiota alterations induced by exposure to mycotoxins (notably DON, AFB1, ZEN, or OTA) increase intestinal permeability, promoting the passage of pro-inflammatory compounds to the liver. This triggers oxidative stress, inflammation, and liver lesions, illustrated by elevated key enzymes (ALT, AST) and oxidative markers.  <\/p>\n<h2><strong>The proposed mechanism: a weakened barrier, a liver on the front line<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The analyzed studies show recurrent changes in the microbiota characterized by a loss of protective taxa and\/or short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) producers (Akkermansia, Roseburia, Prevotella in particular) in favor of more pro-inflammatory profiles such as Proteobacteria.
